Someday I will finish writing a post…

Ok, so I have a dirty little secret. I have some skeletons in my closet.  Twelve to be exact. You see, it seems that everytime that I sit down to write one of these things, I get distracted, or I have to go somewhere and it never gets finished…and the next time that I have something I want to write about, it happens again….and so nothing ever gets finished and then there is more stuff that is unfinished….and this has happened 12 times, which means I have 12 drafts just sitting there waiting for me to finish them….

I have to say though, it’s not so bothersome as to force me to set some time aside to finish these posts because the truth is that the posts are about my life and I would much rather be living it than writing about it…so…

Rest assured to those of you regular readers (I say that so confidently–the “regular readers” part), there is a whole lot of material coming your way but you will just have to wait for it.  One of these days I will get around to it.

The Perfect Pillows

Ok, so Issa and I really enjoy this whole Holiday baking thing together. It’s fun, it is interactive and–most importantly–it is not the Laker game….

So, I decided to stop on my way home from appointments today…at the local Marshalls to pick up some bakin equiptment like cookie cutters and rolling pins for tonights endeavor. I found, right away, most of the things I was looking for but I couldn’t find the cookie cutters that I was sure were there….

I wandered up and down the aisles getting a little worried that I might have to make yet another stop on my way home when….WHAM! Out of nowhere, there was a box, sitting in the middle of the rear aisle, as if someone was unloading it from the truck…and inside this box were THE pillows….THE pillows that I had been looking for since we moved here nearly 4 months ago…

Ok, so it’s not like I really had a particular pillow in mind, but I knew what general colors it would have…I was looking for something with blues and greens and browns…something that would match the curtains that I had found some time ago at Ikea….and there they were…the highly anticipated coordinating pillows were calling my name.

“BUT WAIT!” Said my penny-pinching self “Now is not the time to be making purchases for home decor, plus you can make these!” and then I saw the price. I couldn’t even buy the material I would need to make these for the amont they were charging for these, and since Issa had just been complaining to me last night that he had nowhere to lay his sleepy head, I figured it would be an approved expense.

I got them home and put them in their respective corners and thought that it couldn’t have been more perfect if I wanted it to be…and so I waited for Issa to come home….I waited and waited…and finally he came through the door, up the stairs…

And when he say the pillows he gave me this look and said, “Allllriiiightttt, those look AWESOME!” and I knew I had done well….

So, there is only one thing left to say: “Welcome home, dream pillows….welcome home.”

She did it again! GO ELISSA!

Pretty soon this chick is going to be on every media outlet you can come across…

Here’s her e-mail this morning:

I worked with the BBC to produce this article on Afghan’s hopes and
fears for the future.’ There two women I interviewed and photographed
were Nabeela Homi, a Kabul housewife, and Suraya Haidery, President of
the Beauticians Union of Kabul. Three of the photos at the top of the
page are ones I took in a Kabul residence for the disabled.

(Elissa, hope you don’t mind my reproduction of your e-mails in my blog?)

Let me just say though, this girl is truly inspirational. She has seen in her “minds eye” what it is that she wants for her life and she has gone after it without waivering.  Wishing you many, many more successes in the future, Elissa! <<sniff>> So proud!
