Backasswards

Alright, since I have been really busy I haven’t had a chance to watch much TV–however, it seems that I have been bitten by the Issa cold bug and I don’t have a ton of energy to do anything this evening AND I have a DVR full of shows yet to be watched….so since Issa is playing basketball right now, I decided to catch up on some shows and I just now hit play on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition…

There is a family with a house in WY…and they rescue dogs…and their house is affected by Radon…

How’d they know? Their kids were getting sick. The little girls asthma got worse and the son had to quit playing sports because he came down with chronic bronchitis. The stats they gave were that one day in that home was the equivalent of smoking TWELEVE cigarettes a day for the children.

The mother and father were sitting there crying about their plight, and I want to be clear…my heart went out to them, it really did. They were explaining that they couldn’t sell the home because of the Radon and the bank wouldn’t refinance them….so they were just stuck in the house.

Ok, this is going to be harsh but HELLO! Your children are suffering and you bought a house that is poisoning your family…the DAY I learn that my children are sucking in carcinogens when they are sleeping peacefully, I am OUTTA THERE! Let the bank foreclose, sue the people who sold it to you…but live in a TRAILER, a cheap motel room…the garage of a relative’s home–ANYTHING…

Money is never a good reason to allow your children to suffer slowly and it is a seriously small thing in the span of your life if you say “I made a bad decision and I am going to fix it”…screw some arbitrary credit rating or the dollar signs in my bank account…the life of my family is more important than anything….

It just doesn’t make sense to me that people live in hopelessness and despair and refuse to acknowledge their own power….not in a case like this, not at all.

I thought it was weird that they didn’t move out right away either, but since we don’t know the whole story I tried to keep my judgments to a minimum lol!

I’ve stopped watching Makeover Home Edition. I just can’t handle the sad situations and ridiculousness. What? You’re 8 and your father died Christmas eve in bed with your mom while you watched and you sort of like cheerleaders? I know! Let’s turn your room into the Pom Pom Warehouse and draw creepy faceless people all over your walls!

Yeah but, Kate, what more do you need to know? I mean, I don’t think you could let anything complicate that issue for you….

And to Becca, yes I have often wondered if the extreme makeover people are somehow impacting the careers that the children choose.
